Associate professor Kate Corby has been on faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Madison since 2008 and continues to create work with her Chicago-based company Kate Corby & Dancers. She has shown her work extensively in the Midwest and in New York, San Francisco, San Diego, Seattle, Atlanta, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Taiwan and Hungary, where she traveled as a Fulbright fellow. Recently professor Corby’s screen dance work has been screened in the Wisconsin Film Festival, Triskelion Arts’ Dance Film Festival, the Detroit Dance City Festival Dance Film Fest, Flatlands Dance Film Festival and the Midwest RADFest. Professor Corby’s choreography has been called “ingenious” by the Chicago Reader, “jarringly beautiful” by the Isthmus and is consistently a Critics’ Pick in Time Out Chicago. She was also featured in Dance Magazine as one of six choreographers “on the cusp of making waves in the larger dance world.” Her recent campus awards include a Vilas Associate Award and the Arts Institutes’ Gerald A. and Joyce J. Bartell Award. Professor Corby also co-directs an after school outreach program, Performing Ourselves, which was established with funds from the Ira and Ineva Reilly Baldwin Wisconsin Idea Endowment.
