International Research Fellows Program

The structure of International Research Fellows Program enables you to focus on your particular research area of interest while providing engagement and interaction with the educational community on campus and in the local community. At the end of the program, you will be awarded a certificate of completion from the Department of Curriculum and Instruction International Research Fellows Program.

As an International Research Fellow, you may be in residence for either fall or spring semester, or for a full academic year.

Semester program: $4,000 (USD)

Academic year program: $6,000 (USD)

STEP 1: APPLICATION

If you are interested in applying, please submit the following to the program director, Professor Maggie Hawkins, at mhawkins@hub.qa.admin.education.wisc.edu:

• A letter of inquiry detailing your academic position or role, your qualifications, your intended length of stay, and what you wish to accomplish while here
• A current curriculum vita
• Evidence of proficiency in English

STEP 2: APPROVAL PROCESS

The program director will inform you of the admission decision via email.

STEP 3: SUBMISSION OF DOCUMENTS

Upon receiving School of Education approval, you will be contacted by our office administrative assistant, who will send you a formal invitation and request the following:

• The dates when you will arrive and depart the United States
• Information verifying how you will support yourself while here
• A copy of your passport identity page (with photo)
• The program fees (via check, money order, or credit card)
• An application for a DS-2019 document

The letter will contain details regarding what is needed.

Once we have completed processing your DS-2019, you will receive an email from the University of Wisconsin–Madison’s International Faculty and Staff Services (IFSS) office with specific information about your visit, and our department will send the original hard copy to you via UPS, so that you may apply for your J-1 Visa.

STEP 4: PAYMENT OF THE PROGRAM FEE

Option 1: Bank Check or Money Order

To pay the program fee via bank check or money order, submit your full payment ($4,000 USD/semester or $6,000 USD/year) made payable to University of Wisconsin–Madison to:

Option 2: Credit Card

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction partners with the School of Education’s Professional Leadership and Community Education for credit card processing. An additional administrative fee of $200 will be added to the program fee for scholars paying by credit card.

To pay the program fee online with a credit card, please follow these steps:

1. Visit the registration website.
2. Click Register
3. Complete the Registrant Information, including your arrival date
4. Submit Registration
5. You will receive an email confirming your registration
